How many times have you attempted to sneak in your kid's room and feel her little body to make sure she's still breathing?

Oh well. I've been there, done that.

Moving your little one to another room is a big deal for most parents. There are lots of emotions that come with it: happy, hopeful, guilty, worried, regretful...

For parents who co-sleep with your baby, this step is even harder to take.

Here are some guidelines for this transition:

  • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends room sharing for at least the first 6 months to reduce the risk of SIDS.

  • Spend a month or so for your baby to get familiar with her new sleeping environment.

  • During the transition phase, keep a good consistency on elements your baby are very used to, such as nap times, bedtime routines, feeding schedules and white noises.

  • It is a great time to sleep train your baby while you move her to her own room because more or less she will protest and you can use this time to establish great sleeping habits for her.
